Wetlands Working Party

The aim of the Southland Wetlands Working Party is to help private landowners to identify and sustainably manage wetland areas on their property and to promote the benefits of including wetland ecosystems as an integral part of your productive farming landscape.

The Southland Wetlands Working Party is developing a protocol surrounding the care and protection of wetlands. This aim of this document will be to recognise the voluntary nature of landowner involvement and to provide clarity and certainty to people about their rights and expectations.

The Wetlands Working Party would like to hear from you! If you want to know more about management, restoration, protection or simply what options are available to help you decide what to do with your wet area, then give Bonnie a call at Environment Southland on 0800 76 88 45 or check out some of the information and contacts below…

There is also a fantastic resource available for people interested in wetland protection. The Wetlands of Southland booklet not only details and describes the wetlands present around the region, it also provides practical information and advice for people wanting to develop and maintain wetlands. Download it from this site or call Environment Southland on 0800 76 88 45 for a free copy!
