During 2005/2006, the Southland District Council and Environment Southland jointly commissioned Boffa Miskell Limited, a planning, ecology and landscaping consultancy firm, to assess the landscape values along the Southland Coast and within the Te Anau Basin. The landscape reports assess the landscape values (i.e. character, sensitivity, visual) and recommend a range of planning approaches for managing landscape values along the Southland Coast and within the Te Anau Basin.

Southland Coastal Landscape Study Report

The Southland Coastal Landscape Study Report dated August 2006, assesses landscape values within the "Coastal Resource Area" of the Southland District Plan (from the South Catlins to Te Wae Wae Bay, excluding Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Invercargill City Council district).
