This plan provides an overview of what the community expects Environment Southland to deliver, shaping the future direction of resource management in Southland. It provides the framework of how Environment Southland will manage the natural and physical resources of Southland, enhancing the positive attributes of the region and promoting sustainable development opportunities.

All issues of regional significance, such as biodiversity, water quantity and quality, Takata whenua, lakes, rivers and wetlands, soils, landscape and natural features, the built environment, transportation, air quality, the coast, mineral and energy resources, natural hazards, solid waste management, and hazardous substances are included.

This plan, prepared in close contact with the other local authorities in Southland, provides a coordinated and integrated framework for resource management in Southland.

Part One
