Dangerous Dams
Environment Southland is inviting submissions on a draft policy on how it manages dangerous, earthquake prone, and flood prone dams in the region.
Council adopted its current policy on dangerous dams in 2006, and is now required to complete its first five yearly review.
This revised policy, which now includes earthquake prone and flood prone dams, once consulted on, must be adopted by Council by September 2011.
Its purpose is to minimise the safety risks of dams in Southland, and to comply with the Act.
Parts of this policy that rely on regulations promulgated under Section 402 of the Building Act will come into force three months after the regulations that give full effect to Section 153 of the Act have been gazetted.
The policy will be reviewed on a five yearly basis.
All submissions should be received by 31 August 2011.
The documents below provide a summary and full content of the proposed Policy on Dangerous Dams, Earthquake - Prone Dams and Flood - Prone Dams.
