Draft Active Southland Transport

Purpose of the Strategy

In order to achieve the outcomes and implement the policies of the Southland Regional Land Transport Strategy, the Southland Regional Land Transport Committee, in consultation with a number of interested parties and the Southland community, has prepared the Southland Active Transport Strategy: A Strategy to Advance Walking, Cycling and other Forms of Active Transport within the Southland Region.

It will be a guiding document for the Southland Regional Land Transport Committee and other interested organisations to make the region more walking and cycling friendly. The Strategy should provide a common direction and improve co-ordination of everyone's efforts to make walking and cycling in Southland even more enjoyable. The Strategy is both a high level document that provides for the framework and direction of walking and cycling and other active modes of transport, as well as a local level document that identifies individual walkway and cycleway development opportunities to encourage more people to walk or cycle.
