MCM Dairies
MCM Dairies Limited has applied to take up to 6,220 m³/day (at a rate of 72 litres/sec) of groundwater from the Riversdale groundwater zone to enable irrigation of 200 hectares of grazed dairy pasture. The annual rate of abstraction will not exceed 560,000 m³/year.
The abstraction is from a lowland aquifer within the Riversdale groundwater zone. The groundwater zone has a preliminary allocation of 7,300,000 m3/year. Cumulative allocation from the groundwater zone, including this application, is 5,387,231 m3/year, 74% of the preliminary allocation and 19% of the mean annual land surface recharge.
The abstraction is a non-complying activity under Rule 23 (e) (ii) of the Regional Water Plan for Southland.
The application was limited notified on 11 April 2011 and four submissions have been received.
The hearing is scheduled to commence at 10:00a.m. 12 September 2011
in the Council Chambers, Environment Southland, corner of Price Street and North Road, Waikiwi, Invercargill.
