he couple have made their Wairaurahiri Jet company synonymous with stoat trapping along the Wairaurahiri River, and have extended their project to the South Coast Track. Persuasive and determined, they encourage their passengers to sponsor traps and freely share their knowledge.

Their efforts have inspired others here in Southland and they soon hope to start laying traps on the Hump Ridge Track.

Last year Joyce organised a roadside cleanup along the Southern Scenic Route, getting widespread community support for her initiative.

Achiever Highly Commended - Mcpherson - TaitHighly Commended- Allan McPherson and John Tait.

For ten years, Allan McPherson and John Tait have given their spare time to looking after Kew Bush behind Southland hospital. It's largely due to their efforts that this beautiful stand of bush is kept free of pest plants, the tracks are clear and native birds sing all day long.

Over the years, Allan and John have tackled everything from holly bushes to rats – not to mention dealing with a few vandals on the way – and their efforts were highly commended in the Environmental Achiever section of the awards.
