Environment Southland’s Senior Land Sustainability Officer, Gary Morgan, has won this year’s staff award for positive influence.
As an advocate for sustainable farm management, Gary encourages farmers to plant trees to counter soil erosion, enhance water quality, create shelter and improve animal welfare. From field days to school plantings, you will find Gary freely sharing his knowledge. He has had a long involvement with both the Farm Forestry Association and the Men of Trees and is often a guest commentator on Hokonui Radio's farming show.
Gary is well respected in farming and forestry circles and is viewed as a mentor by many. He also acts as the Regional Wildlife Coordinator for Southland’s oilspill response team.
