Boating hazard on Lake Monowai

A large raft of logs and floating debris is causing a boating hazard on Lake Monowai.
Environment Southland Harbourmaster Kevin O’Sullivan said at present the debris was floating on the south side of the lake, roughly opposite Shelter Point.
“Boaties need to be aware that this debris poses a hazard for boating on the lake – particularly at night. We expect the debris to break up further over the next few weeks, which will increase the risk of collision.
“Caution must be exercised at all times,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
Boaties should check for updates on VHF channel 63 before leaving the ramp.
