Environment Southland’s harbour master is warning boat owners in Fiordland to act immediately and check that their moorings are secure, particularly in the Fiordland area and on lakes Te Anau and Manapouri.

Met Service has issued a severe gale warning and Southland Harbour Master Kevin O’Sullivan says that boat owners should check their moorings straight away, before the winds increase to expected gusts of 140km/hour tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

“Please exercise caution, however, and don’t put your own life or the lives of others at risk when attending to your moorings,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
