National Environmental Standard - Air Quality

Environment Southland (Southland Regional Council) is required under the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards (NES) Relating to Certain Air Pollutants, Dioxins, and Other Toxics) Regulations 2004 to report any breach of the ambient air quality standard.

Particulate PM10 concentrations exceeded the standard during the month of June 2011 at the following locations:

The National Environmental Standard for 24 hour PM10 is 50 mg/m3.

Three exceedences of the NES is allowed per year. There have been twelve periods of exceedence at Invercargill in 2011 and is therefore in breech of the NES.   There have been two exceedences of the NES in Gore thus far in 2011.  There has been no exceedence of the NES in and Riverton and Te Anau thus far in 2011
