National Environmental Standard

Environment Southland (Southland Regional Council) is required under the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards (NES) Relating to Certain Air Pollutants, Dioxins, and Other Toxics) Regulations 2004 to report any breach of the ambient air quality standard.

Particulate PM10 concentrations exceeded the standard during the month of July 2011 at the following location:

The National Environmental Standard for 24 hour PM10 is 50 mg/m3.

Three exceedences of the NES is allowed per year. There have been fourteen periods of exceedence at Invercargill in 2011 and is therefore in breach of the NES.  There have been two exceedences of the NES in Gore in 2011.  There has been no exceedence of the NES in and Riverton or Te Anau thus far in 2011.
