RMA Application - Waikaia Gold Ltd

Public notice is hereby given pursuant to S.95A Resource Management Act 1991 that the following application for various resource consents has been received by Environment Southland.
Waikaia Gold Limited - Water Permit, Discharge Permit and Land Use Consent Applications W297-002
Purpose: To install an unlimited number of groundwater abstraction, monitoring and geological investigation wells for the purpose of defining mineral resources and dewatering mine cells for an alluvial gold mining operation. The installations are discretionary activities in accordance with Rule 22(a) of the Regional Water Plan for Southland (the RWPS).
The non-consumptive abstraction of up to 29,549 m³/day (684,976 m³/month and 5,500,000 m³/year) of groundwater from the Wendon Groundwater Zone for temporary site dewatering and materials processing to facilitate excavation activities associated with alluvial gold mining. The abstraction is a discretionary activity in accordance with Rule 23 (d) (i) of the RWPS
To discharge mine pond dewatering and stormwater to water, namely the Waikaia River and the Garvieburn, and to water via land. The discharge is a discretionary activity in accordance with Rule 1 of the RWPS
To disturb the bed of the Waikaia River and the Garvieburn to allow for placement and movement of pipes associated with authorised discharges to water. The bed disturbance is a discretionary activity in accordance with Rule 47 of the RWPS.
To discharge contaminants, namely dust, from alluvial gold mining and associated activities. The discharge is a discretionary activity in accordance with Rule 5.5.2(5) (i-iii) of the Regional Air Quality Plan for Southland.
