Regional Pest Management Strategy

Consultation on the proposal for a Southland Regional Pest Management Plan and proposed Biosecurity Strategy has now closed. TApproximately 150 submissions were received and a date for the hearing is yet to be set. The proposed plan and strategy will set the scene for biosecurity in Southland for the next 10 years, so it is important that we get it right.

The existing Regional Pest Management Strategy for Southland was approved by Council on 27 February 2013 and became operative on 1 March 2013.

The previous strategy expired at the end of its statutory five year life on 31 August 2012. The current strategy is identical to the previous one and is an interim measure to retain the current policies and regulatory powers until it can be fully reviewed to meet the provisions of the recently substantially amended Bisoecurity Act.
