Pest animals & plants

We're responsible for pest management within the Southland region. We work with people to ensure pest plants and animals do not impact too severely on the values that give Southland a world class environment.

Our work helps protecting New Zealand's economy and environment as well as people's social and cultural wellbeing and health from pests and diseases. It includes trying to prevent new pests and diseases from arriving, and controlling or eradicating those already present.

Note: Our new Southland Regional Pest Management Plan is now operative. Our website is still being updated with the new rules and information. To ensure the most accurate information, you can read the full plan at www.es.govt.nz/rpmp or contact one of our biosecurity officers by emailing service@es.govt.nz or calling 0800 76 88 45.
