Flood protection and rating changes – have your say
We’re proposing to enhance flood protection and change the way we rate – and we need you to have your say.
Our draft Long-term Plan consultation document, Investing in Southland Whakangao Ki Murihiku, is open for submissions now and we’re coming to Winton on Saturday, 20 April from 10.00-12.00pm at the Winton Library.
The Council’s key proposal is for ongoing and greater investment in flood protection for Southland to improve community resilience through an increase in operating expenditure of $2.3m per annum to be funded by a new Flood Protection Infrastructure Rate.
The new rate would be based on capital value for all ratepayers and would replace 140 targeted rates to pay for improved flood mitigation, including and repayment of debt for new flood infrastructure.
Please let us know what you think – you can read the information and make a submission online by clicking here.
Submissions can be made until 5pm 6 May.
