Become a wetland detective – join the Matuku Muster

The matuku-hūrepo (Australasian bittern) is one of New Zealand’s rarest birds, and Southland is one of its strongholds.

These critically endangered wetland birds are difficult to count because they are so secretive.

You may never spot a matuku, but you might hear its distinctive booming call.

Join us at Blueberry Country for a fun, family-friendly evening learning about the elusive matuku and listening for its call in the QEII wetland.

Things to note:

• Bring along a chair
• Make sure you’re wrapped up warmly.
• Strictly no dogs
• Unfortunately, no blueberry sales will be available
