Central Government is undertaking a range of reforms. These affect the community and several will directly affect the way Environment Southland works.

Emergency Management Bill

The Emergency Management Bill, once law, will replace the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.
Rates capping proposal

The Government is implementing a rates cap—expected to be between 2% and 4% per capita, per year—to keep down local council rate increases.
Replacing the Resource Management Act

The New Zealand government is replacing the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) with two new laws: the Natural Environment Bill and the Planning Bill.
