Managing natural hazards

Murihiku Southland faces a range of natural hazards, including flooding, coastal inundation and earthquakes. Environment Southland works to understand where and how these hazards occur, and to reduce their effects on people, property and critical infrastructure. Our work includes maintaining the region’s flood infrastructure network, developing and updating local hazard maps and models, and providing information to help councils, planners and communities make informed decisions.
