New Environment Southland chair elected
Environment Southland’s new council was unanimous in electing Jeremy McPhail as chair at its inaugural meeting this afternoon.
The fourth-term councillor was deputy chair to Nicol Horrell in the last triennium, who retired from local government at this year’s election.
Chair McPhail was elected unopposed in the Eastern Dome constituency.
His deputy, also elected unanimously, is Councillor Phil Morrison.
The second-term councillor was one of six elected to represent the Invercargill-Rakiura constituency this term.
Each Councillor made a declaration to serve in the best interests of Southland.
Chair McPhail was appointed as Environment Southland’s representative on the Southland Civil Defence Emergency Management Group.
The appointment of other committee chairs was deferred until the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 20 November.
