Pay your rates

There are multiple ways you can pay your rates, including setting up a flexible payment schedule, paying online using a credit/debit card, bank transfer, or in person.

If you pay rates on more than one property, your rates notice will include a separate page for each property. Be sure to scroll through all pages to view the details for each property.

All rates payments are due by the 27th November 2026.

A 10% late payment penalty will be imposed on:

  • any current rates balance due but not paid by the due date;
  • all rates in arrears as at 1 July each year remaining unpaid and on the following 1 January (this penalty excludes current year's rates);
  • all rates in arrears as at 1 July the following year.

Penalties pay for the cost of collecting rates in arrears. If you cannot pay the full amount, a part payment will reduce the penalty.

Please note: If you set up Payble before 27 November 2026 and are spreading your rates payments across the year, you won't incur a late payment penalty, provided your scheduled payments are made.

Choose a payment option that suits you with Payble. Pay your rates in a single lump sum by the November due date or spread payments across the year with a flexible payment plan.

Payment plans need to be in place before the 27th November. Once rates invoices are issued in October, your payment schedule will automatically adjust to ensure your rates are paid in full by 30 June.

You can make a one-off payment through internet banking using the details below:

You can also find us in your list of registered payees under Environment Southland or Southland Regional Council.

Rates payments - enter your Assessment ID (shown at the top right of your rates notice) in the reference field.

If additional fields are required, you can enter your name and/or property address.

Invoice payments - enter your Account Number (shown at the top right of your invoice) in the reference field.

No other information is required. If your bank requires additional fields to be completed, enter the invoice number you are paying.

Payments can be made by EFTPOS, Visa or Mastercard.
